July 2, 2018 — Stage 12 — Drumnadrochit [East Lewiston] to Inverness (12.4 km—26 deg C)

This was the last stage of our hike along the Great Glen Way . . . We did walk the first part of it and arrived at the trail-end at the castle in Inverness, but honestly we didn't hike the entire last section.  Neither one of us were up the elevations and distance, which was to be about 32 kms, and there was also a lot of sunshine and heat to contend with.  So, after the scrumptious breakfast cooked by our friendly B&B hosts, we explored about the town, hiked along the first part of the trail out of Drumnadrochit until we had a view of Urquhart Castle, took some photos of the Castle and some shaggy-headed Highland cattle beside our trail (first ones we've seen), and then hiked back to Lewiston and wandered along Kilmore Road and Pitkerrald Road, two streets with historical significance to the MacDonalds.  We also explored another cemetery (the "new" Kilmore cemetery—only 200 years old!) and then cooled off with some refreshments at post office cafe, while a kilted young man played the bagpipes in the town square across the street.  It's a pretty little town, and not so overly touristy as we were anticipating.

A bus came along, so we hopped on and then, a mere 15 minutes later, jumped off in mid-Inverness.  We bought some groceries in Tesco, walked up to Inverness Castle, and ate lunch looking down on the pretty River Ness with people strolling along both shady banks.  We took a photo there at the trail-end, then walked down and along one side of the river, ourselves, and back across the river to our B&B.  After a siesta, we strolled around some more, until we came upon an Indian restaurant where we treated ourselves to a tasty supper.
